It just occurred to me that Starbucks (or any other chain cafe) has not seen fit to open in the greater KX area. Why? It's the most densely populated area in Australia, has a broad demographic with an ever growing yuppie base and yet no Starbucks et al...
Is this because KX has an established coffee scene with numerous great cafes? Has KX found the antidote to corporate cafe invasion. Are we impermeable? Not for long I fear...

When I was living in london a few years back I couldn't believe how many coffee chains there were. This would never happen in Oz I used to think to myself.
Lo and behold we now have Starbucks all across Australia. Well almost. They opened one on a high profile Brunswick St corner in Melbourne.
Brunswick St is one of Melbournes key cafe strips. I'm happy to say that the locals didn't want to drink grande tall chino lattes in paper cups.
As such the Starbucks closed after only a few weeks.
I looked after an American film crew a few years back. When I met them at the airport I told them how much they would love the coffee in Australia. After a few days of drinking Great (in my opinion) coffee they switched back to US style perk coffee. I was forever having to take them McD's...Glad to see Brunswick street fought the good fight.
